Academics

St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School is affiliated to the Kerala State Board syllabus. We focus on a basic and stable foundation in academics, ethics and moral values of our students. The scholastic year is from June to March.

Student Life

  • In St. Joseph EMHSS, the day begins with school assembly, classes start at 8.50 am and ends at 3 pm. The higher secondary classes begin at 8 am and ends at 3.45 pm.
  • Apart from curriculum-based and examination-oriented teaching, the academic work includes project-based learning by the students, industrial visits and study tours.
  • The School also provides opportunities for interaction with external specialists in various fields, including those from abroad.
  • The School conducts assessments and examinations as per Kerala State Board Norms. The primary and secondary school follow the comprehensive and continuous evaluation systems. After every term-end examination, the students are given special guidance and coaching. Parents are well updated about the development of curricular and co-curricular activities of their ward.

PTA

In order to smoothen the functions of school and for the welfare of the students, it is important for both the teachers and parents to come together. This is well achieved by the Parent-Teacher Association of our school. Our PTA works with a mission to make the school a better place for the children to learn. Parents work together with Teachers and support the school efforts. They have succeeded in establishing a closer relationship between the home and school so that parents and teachers may co-operate intelligently in the academic performances of the children and to make them better individuals. With the leadership of our PTA President, Mother Superior and the School Principal, we have formed PTA executive committee with 17 parents and 8 teachers.

Co-Curricular Activities

Importance is given to extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Opportunities are provided for various other activities beyond academics to students, not only to refresh their minds and free their spirits but also to develop their personality and leadership traits. This process helps students to be efficient to tackle different situations better, than in achieving expertise in these fields. Sports, both outdoors and indoors develop mental and physical skills and help students to remain healthy and active in every sphere of life. These bring out the qualities of self control and leadership, team play and sportsman spirit. Efforts are also made to enhance education with study tours and picnics that provide the students an opportunity to enhance their perceptions. All these activities are included in the school curriculum. The School literary and cultural activities have helped the student to excel in inter-school competitions. Football, handball, tennis, shuttle badminton and basketball teams have won prizes in inter-school competitions and represented the state of Kerala at the national level.
